20% VAT exemption for UK private-hire taxi operators outside London upheld by Court of Appeal.
Uber's UK court win over rival taxi operators facing a 20% tax charge on profit margins outside London has been overturned on appeal. The Court of Appeal ruled in favour of private-hire taxi operators Delta Merseyside and Veezu, stating that private-hire taxi operators do not enter into a contract with passengers. Consequently, taxi operators outside of London will not be required to pay Value Added Tax (VAT) at 20%.
