23 endangered Mariana crows were released into the wild on Luta island, a step towards a self-sustaining population.
23 endangered Mariana crows, hand-reared and listed as an endangered species since 1984, were released into the wild on Luta island by the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands Department of Lands and Natural Resources and US Fish and Wildlife Service. This marks an important step towards achieving a self-sustaining population. The Mariana crow, known as 'åga', faced decline due to the introduction of the brown tree snake to Guam in the 1940s.
