Former Tánaiste Simon Coveney announced he will not run in the next general election, having represented the Cork South Central constituency for 26 years. Coveney stated that being elected for 26 years had been the privilege of his life and that now was the right time for renewal in Fine Gael and for him to change direction. He did not reveal his future plans, but expressed gratitude for the faith placed in him by constituents.
