NZ government considers reconciliation package for Patutokotoko hapu, including marae, cultural hub, and Tūroa family name resolution on Mount Ruapehu.

The NZ government is considering a reconciliation package for Patutokotoko hapu, including a new marae and cultural hub in Ruapehu, after a "flawed" engagement process last year regarding the commercialisation of the Tūroa family name on Mount Ruapehu. The package includes funding for historical research, multimedia materials to tell the Tūroa family story, land purchasing, and assistance resolving concerns about the skifield's name. No decisions have been made yet.
