Lithium-ion batteries emerge as a source of PFAS pollution, according to a Nature Communications study.
Lithium-ion batteries, crucial for clean energy infrastructure, have been identified as a growing source of PFAS (per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances) pollution, according to a study in Nature Communications. The researchers discovered bis-perfluoroalkyl sulfonimides (bis-FASIs) in air, water, snow, soil, and sediment near manufacturing plants in the US, Belgium, and France. This highlights the need for cleaner energy solutions and improved recycling methods to mitigate the spread of PFAS pollution.
