2014-2021 study in British Columbia found maternal caribou pens improved animal health and recovery from habitat loss.
A first-of-its-kind study found that caribou pens in British Columbia improved animal health. The study evaluated 46 female southern mountain caribou placed in maternal pens between 2014 and 2021. The pens protected the animals from predators and provided a safer environment while they give birth, helping them recover from habitat loss due to industrial logging, oil and gas exploration, and trail and road construction.
