Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong, charged under Beijing's national security law, requests reduced sentence after pleading guilty in the largest national security case.

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong, one of 47 charged in 2021 under Beijing's national security law, has requested a reduced sentence in court after pleading guilty in Hong Kong's largest national security case. Known for his role in various pro-democracy movements, Wong faces a possible life sentence. Those who plead guilty have a better chance of receiving shorter sentences. His lawyer, Marco Li, argued that Wong should be considered an "active participant" and hoped for a one-third reduction in his sentence due to his guilty plea. The mitigation hearings for the 45 convicted defendants are ongoing, with sentencing to be determined at a later date.
