The earthquake occurred 8.8 kilometers west of Atiquipa at a depth of 17 miles, and was felt in nearby regions such as Ayacucho, Ica, and the capital, Lima. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu later confirmed that the tsunami threat had passed.
