Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has signed into law a controversial reform expanding parliament's powers, but vowed to seek a ruling from the island's top court to try to overturn it. The reform bills, passed last month, have sparked massive protests on the island, with critics fearing they could weaken self-ruled Taiwan's democracy against the influence of China, which claims the island as part of its territory.
