19 Oregon firefighters are sent to New Mexico to aid in battling wildfires that have scorched over 23,000 acres. The mutual assistance agreements between the states allow Oregon to send firefighters to help when local capacity is exceeded. The two-week rotation with New Mexico partners will help Oregon firefighters brush up on their skills before their state's fire season peaks later this summer.
