New Mexico wildfires have killed at least one person, forced thousands of residents to evacuate, and destroyed over 500 structures. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a state of emergency and deployed National Guard troops to help control the fires. The South Fork Fire has consumed roughly 1,400 buildings, including the entire village of Ruidoso, with high winds complicating firefighting efforts.
