Nova Scotia adopts rent-geared-to-income model for public housing tenants.
Nova Scotia is transitioning public housing tenants to a universal rent-payment structure based on a rent-geared-to-income model. Starting in November, over 1,400 tenants with fixed rent will pay no more than 30% of their income in rent, with those on higher incomes experiencing a gradual 5% annual rent increase over four years. The changes aim to promote fairness and consistency in public housing provision across the province.
