A study by researchers at The Ohio State University suggests a possible link between hepatitis E virus (HEV) and male infertility, as well as potentially sexually transmitted nature. The virus was discovered in sperm cells of pigs, capable of infecting human liver cells in culture and reproducing. If the virus can replicate in sperm or alter sperm structure, it may impact screening tests for pregnant women and the swine industry.
