High-risk HPV infections linked to impaired fertility in men, based on a study in Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology.
A study in Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology reveals a link between high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections and impaired fertility in men. HPV-positive men were found to have higher dead sperm counts and lower white blood cell counts, impacting their fertility. The researchers analyzed semen samples from 205 unvaccinated men and found that 19% tested positive for HPV, with high-risk strains causing increased sperm death due to oxidative stress and weakened immune response.
