Hormel Institute's researcher, Dr. Susan Hafenstein, receives a $85,000, six-month grant from Nationwide Children's Hospital to study hepatitis E virus (HEV). HEV causes liver inflammation and leads to around 44,000 deaths annually. Dr. Hafenstein will use cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to examine HEV's structure and functions, potentially leading to new treatment and preventative measures against HEV hepatitis.
