2024 State of the American Teacher survey by Rand reveals high levels of stress, burnout, and underpayment among K-12 public school teachers. Teachers report longer working hours (53 hours weekly) and lower average base pay than similar working adults. Black and female teachers face higher stress levels and greater intentions to leave the profession. Only 36% of teachers consider their base pay adequate.
