18-year-old JJ Rice, a U.S.-born kitefoiler chosen to represent Tonga in the Paris Olympics, died in a diving accident in the Tonga archipelago. Born in the U.S. to British-born parents, Rice grew up in Tonga and earned his Olympic spot by finishing eighth at the Sail Sydney event in December. Kitefoiling, which involves racing on boards lifted off the water on foils, will be an Olympic sport for the first time in Paris.
