Kolkata Metro begins upgrading its oldest corridor by replacing steel third rails with energy-efficient aluminum ones. This aluminum rail is expected to reduce energy loss by 84%, decrease operational costs, and lower carbon emissions by 50,000 tons over its lifetime. The project will be completed within two years with a German company handling it.
