Transporting NZ warns Port of Auckland price hikes could harm businesses and consumers without substantial productivity gains.

Road freight peak body Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand warns that Port of Auckland (POAL) price hikes could hurt businesses and consumers if not accompanied by significant port productivity gains. POAL recently announced port access fee increases for 2025 and 2026, following substantial increases in January. As one of the largest container and import ports in the country, its performance affects all other ports, with truck turnaround times improving from 20 minutes to over 16 minutes in 2024.
