Researchers engineer plants to produce human milk oligosaccharides, enhancing infant formula's nutritional value.

75% of babies drink infant formula in their first six months, but it currently lacks the full nutritional profile of breast milk, especially the unique blend of 200 prebiotic sugar molecules. Researchers at UC Berkeley and UC Davis have engineered plants to produce these human milk oligosaccharides, potentially improving baby formula's nutritional value. The study was published in Nature Food.
