Grant County resident in their 20s dies from Hantavirus, a rare and sometimes fatal illness caused by a virus found in infected rodents, marking the first reported case in Washington State in 2024 and the sixth case in Grant County in the last 20 years. The individual is believed to have been exposed to rodents inside a vehicle. Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome symptoms usually appear one to six weeks after exposure.
