Pentagon study shows US soldiers nine times more likely to die by suicide than in combat from 2014-2019. Suicide was the leading cause of death among active-duty soldiers, with 883 suicides and 96 combat deaths. Since then, the Army has implemented measures to address mental health, focusing on alcohol abuse, weapon storage, and other factors unique to conflicts in the Global War on Terror.
