Humanity exhausts Earth's annual natural resources by August 1, according to Global Footprint Network's latest calculations. This is due in part to a small reduction in carbon emissions being offset by lower levels of carbon sequestration by oceans. In 2024, World Environmental Debt Day, marking resource depletion, will be postponed to August 2, a day earlier than in 2023.
