New Jersey proposes delisting bald eagle and osprey as endangered species due to population recovery.
New Jersey is proposing to remove the bald eagle and osprey from its endangered species list due to their populations recovering since the 1980s when there were just one nesting pair of bald eagles in the entire state. The turnaround is attributed to the work of volunteers and state professionals who nurtured hatchlings, guarded nests, and educated the public. The proposed rule to delist the bald eagle as endangered also includes the osprey, which was considered threatened.
