Fijian-born Auckland soldier, Lieutenant Jokaveti (Sue) Waqanivalu, commanded New Zealand Army's construction troop during Exercise Tropic Twilight in Tonga. The annual humanitarian exercise involved skilled tradespeople supporting local projects to boost the Pacific kingdom's resilience to natural disasters. Lieutenant Waqanivalu, who moved to New Zealand at age 4, found similarities between the Ha'apai islands and her native Fijian village.
