British Columbia's Supreme Court has ruled in favour of the provincial government, quashing Surrey City's bid to halt the transition to a municipal police force. Surrey Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has declared the dispute over, and called for the community to come together and complete the transition from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to the Surrey Police Service. The decision upholds the province's authority over municipalities, despite Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke's campaign to halt the transition.
