Turkmenistan unveiled an 80-m high bronze statue, one of the world's tallest, in honour of its most famous national poet, Magtymguly Pyragy. Critics say the statue, along with other recent monuments, buildings and statues, is part of an intense cult of personality. President Serdar Berdymukhamedov presided over the ceremony, and the statue is seen as promoting a Turkmen identity rooted in history.
