An electric scooter's battery exploded in an apartment building in Portland, filling several hallways with smoke. Fire officials received a 911 call at 8:50 a.m. and found light smoke on the first floor, with smoke in the second and third floor hallways and a stairwell. The scooter was found on a landing in the stairwell. No one was hurt and there was no fire damage to the building. Portland Fire & Rescue reminded people that lithium-ion batteries can pose a threat if not treated properly.
