A coroner in Merseyside, UK, has issued a warning about the dangers of storing electric bikes and scooters at home after an eight-year-old boy died in a fire caused by a charging e-bike.
The incident highlighted the risks posed by lithium batteries, which can ignite and spread fires rapidly, producing toxic fumes.
Since August 2022, 13 people have died in fires involving e-bikes and e-scooters.
The coroner, Anita Bhardwaj, has sent a report to safety bodies urging better public awareness of these risks.
