The Australian government plans to introduce a new Commonwealth Prac Payment, providing $319.50 a week to students in nursing, teaching, midwifery, and social work when they undertake clinical and professional placements. The measure aims to address "placement poverty" and is set to benefit around 68,000 higher education students and more than 5,000 VET students each year, starting from July 2023. The payment will be benchmarked to the single Austudy rate.
