Australian government invests $314m for safety measures and 606 security guards at Services Australia offices after aggressive incidents.
The Australian government has announced a $314m investment in safety measures for Services Australia staff and customers, following a significant increase in aggressive incidents at its offices. This follows a violent attack on a Services Australia officer in May 2023, in which Joeanne Cassar was stabbed. The new security measures will include the recruitment of up to 606 security guards, advanced security features, a central Security Operations Centre and enhanced design for 35 service centres at high risk of customer aggression.
