80-year-old Oscar-nominated filmmaker and social activist Lourdes Portillo, known for directing "The Devil Never Sleeps" and "The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo," has passed away. Born in Mexico, Portillo moved to the US and started making films at 21. Her work focused on Mexican and LGBTQ stories, and she was a prominent advocate for the Chicano movement and LGBTQ rights.
