This was his first victory in the marathon after previously failing to finish twice and placing 30th in three prior attempts. In the women's race, Kenyan Hellen Obiri successfully defended her title, beating fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi by eight seconds with a finishing time of 2:27:37. Obiri, who also won the New York Marathon, is now a contender for the Paris Olympics.
