Election Commission of India extends Model Code of Conduct to private advisers in Andhra Pradesh government.
The Election Commission of India has informed the Andhra Pradesh government that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) applies to private advisers in the same manner as it does to ministers, due to complaints about their involvement in political campaigns and press conferences criticizing opposition parties. All 40 advisers to the state government hold the equivalent rank of cabinet ministers and have been appointed through executive orders. Violations of the EC's instructions will be taken seriously and action will be taken under the MCC and relevant laws.
