South Africa challenges EU's citrus import restrictions at WTO over unjustified requirements.

South Africa, the world's second-largest citrus exporter, is challenging the EU's citrus import restrictions at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The African nation has requested consultations with the EU at the WTO, claiming that the EU's measures, such as additional refrigeration requirements and proof of costly spraying, are not justified, proportionate, or appropriate. South Africa's citrus exports to the EU totaled $644 million in 2021.
