Panama Canal Authority plans to increase daily transits from 27 to 32 due to improving water levels.
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) plans to gradually increase the number of daily transits from 27 to 32 due to signs of improved water levels, following a period of drought blamed on climate change and El Niño phenomenon. The increase will occur in three stages: from 16 May to 31 May, daily transits will rise from 24 to 31; from 1 June, daily transits will be increased from 7 to 8 at the Neopanamax locks, bringing the total to 32. The ACP aims to increase transits to 36 daily by 2025.
