Panama Canal Authority (ACP) warns ongoing water shortage despite recent rains, operating with rainwater from artificial lakes Gatun and Alajuela, impacted by a prolonged dry season. ACP calls for alternative water sources and storage projects, plans to increase vessel drafts and allow 35 ships per day from August 5. In 2023, the canal handled 511 million tons of cargo, generating $3.34 billion in revenue.
