Panama Canal recovers from drought-induced transit restrictions, increasing daily transits and maximum draft.

The Panama Canal, crucial for international trade, is gradually returning to normal after last year's drought forced restricted vessel transit. The Panama Canal Authority has increased daily transits through both Panamax and Neopanamax locks, while raising the maximum draft for Neopanamax locks. This follows a significant decrease in transit by 49% in January compared to December 2021, now down to 42%. The UNCTAD secretary-general has commended the improvement in the canal's management and operations.
