17-year-old S Nirmala, who avoided child marriage, tops first-year intermediate board exams in Andhra Pradesh, scoring 421 out of 440 marks. Born in a family with financial constraints, Nirmala sought help from local legislator Y Saiprasad Reddy, who rescued her from child marriage and enrolled her in Kasturba Gandhi Balikala Vidyalaya. Aspiring to become an IPS officer, she wants to help girls like herself and fight against child marriages.
