Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a new scheme, 'Nijut Moina', providing monthly stipends to girl students from class 11 to post-graduation over the next five years, aiming to prevent child marriages by financially supporting the girls' education and delaying their marriages. The scheme, which will increase the gross enrollment ratio of girls, excludes daughters of ministers, MLAs, MPs, and students in private colleges. Estimated to cost Rs 1,500 crore in five years, the stipends range from Rs 1,000 for class 11 and 12 students to Rs 2,500 for post-graduation students.
