India's Union Ministry of Home Affairs drafts model rules for parents to record child's parents' religion during birth registration.
India's Union Ministry of Home Affairs has drafted model rules requiring parents to record the religion of both the father and mother when registering the birth of a child. This change follows the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act passed in 2023, which mandates a national-level database for births and deaths, potentially to be used for updating the National Population Register, electoral rolls, Aadhaar number, ration card, passport, driving license, and property registration.
