British Columbia is enhancing police oversight and governance through changes to its Police Act. If passed, the legislation would expand the jurisdictions of the province's two police watchdogs, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) and the Office of the Police Complaint Commission (OPCC). The OPCC would be able to conduct its own investigations into systemic problems it identifies and start investigations sooner.
