Larry Lucchino, a former Boston Red Sox president and CEO, who significantly contributed to the transformation of baseball's retro ballpark revolution and the team's rise from a cursed loser to World Series champions, passed away at 78 after suffering from cancer. Lucchino, who also worked with three major league baseball franchises and one NFL team, was instrumental in developing the trend of old-style ballparks, beginning with Camden Yards in Baltimore and later Fenway Park in Boston. Alongside new owners John Henry and Tom Werner, he helped the Red Sox win two World Series, ending an 86-year championship drought.
