250+ patients may have died needlessly weekly in England in 2023 due to long A&E waits, per RCEM report.
The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) report estimates that 250+ patients may have died needlessly every week in England in 2023 due to "excessively long" A&E waits, with an average of 268 preventable deaths per week after over 100K faced waits of over eight hours. RCEM calls for urgent intervention to address the issue, highlighting that patients and staff should not bear the consequences of insufficient funding and under-resourcing, as well as the need to eliminate avoidable delays and death.
