Oxford rower criticizes River Thames E. coli levels in the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, which exceed Environment Agency standards.

Oxford rower criticised the conditions in the River Thames during the Boat Race between University of Oxford and University of Cambridge, citing high levels of E. coli as the cause for "poo in the water". Research by River Action and the Fulham Reach Boat Club revealed an average of 2,869 E. coli colony forming units (CFU) per 100ml of water, significantly exceeding the Environment Agency's quality standards level of below 1,000 CFU per 100ml. Despite the safety guidelines provided to the crews, the University of Cambridge won both the men's and women's races, with the Environment Agency investigating the source of pollution.
