British Columbia increases carbon tax by 23% to $80 per tonne, adding 3.3 cents/litre to gasoline, with all increase returned through the climate action tax credit.

B.C. will proceed with a planned 23% increase in its provincial carbon tax, adding 3.3 cents to each litre of gasoline from April 1. Environment Minister George Heyman confirmed the hike, which raises the carbon tax to $80 per tonne. Heyman stated that 100% of the increase will be returned to low and middle-income British Columbians through the climate action tax credit.
