Trans Tasman Resources abandons South Taranaki Bight mining application after 2021 Supreme Court ruling.
Trans Tasman Resources (TTR), an Australian seabed mining company, has abandoned its application to mine the South Taranaki Bight in New Zealand, following the 2021 Supreme Court quashing of its 2017 consent due to its failure to prove it wouldn't cause material harm to the area. Kiwis Against Seabed Mining (KASM) have criticised the move as a cynical attempt to bypass proper scrutiny, and have urged the public to submit against the government's proposed fast-track legislation for such projects.
