Stevenson Mining has withdrawn its appeal against the Te Kuha coal mine in NZ, but environmentalists are concerned about fast-track consenting proposals, fearing ministers could approve projects undermining their efforts to protect rare ecosystems and endangered species at the mine site. Forest & Bird Group Manager Richard Capie criticized the fast-track legislation as "anti-nature, anti-environment, and anti-democratic."
