Researchers have found that young adults taking ADHD medication may have a higher risk of developing heart damage. The study discovered that those prescribed stimulants, such as Adderall and Ritalin, had a 17% increased risk of cardiomyopathy after one year, and a 57% increased risk after eight years. However, the overall risk of cardiomyopathy remained low, even when stimulants were used over a long period.
