The US DOE plans to invest $22m in improving planning, siting, and permitting processes for large-scale renewable energy facilities. Six state-based projects will receive $10m through the R-STEP program, helping local governments and communities plan and evaluate large-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects. This initiative is significant, as solar and wind power are expected to make up 94% of new electric-generating capabilities in 2022. A second round of funding, up to $12m, will be allocated from the Inflation Reduction Act.
